Fear led to our seven-game winless streak – Asante Kotoko midfielder Richmond Lamptey

Asante Kotoko deputy captain, Richmond Lamptey has attributed the club’s seven-game winless run to teammates being consumed by fear.

The club's recent poor performance prompted a visit to the club’s life patron, Otumfuo, at his Manhyia Palace earlier in April.

The team had experienced a seven-game winless run, losing six and drawing one, before they met with the Asantehene.

Since the meeting, they have managed to avoid defeat in their last three games. They secured a victory against Ghana Premier League leaders Samartex, followed by a draw with Medeama SC in Tarkwa, and a 2-0 win against Legon Cities in their most recent game.

Lamptey has been sidelined due to injury and has not featured for Asante Kotoko for an extended period.

“After we visited Opemsuo, by God’s grace, things have changed for us,” Lamptey said in an interview played on Asempa FM, as monitored by footballghana.com.

“Kotoko is a team when you are playing here you don’t play with it. You have to be very serious.”

The record Ghana champions will face Berekum Chelsea away at the Golden City Park this coming weekend in match week 30 of the Ghana Premier League.

I have seen that there was some fear that has overcome the boys and how Kotoko is, when a defeat comes, the fans will talk. But now, the boys have overcame the fear.
