We will do everything to sustain Hearts of Oak – Former Board Member Frank Nelson

Published on: 27 June 2024

Former Hearts of Oak board member Frank Nelson has assured that the club will do everything to ensure that there is sustainability at the club after they narrowly escaped Ghana Premier League relegation.

Despite a promising start to the 2023/24 season, which saw the dismissal of head coach Martin Koopman, the Phobians faced significant challenges throughout the campaign.

Assistant coach Abdul Bashiru stepped in temporarily before the appointment of former Asante Kotoko manager Aboubakar Ouattara on a two-and-a-half-year contract. Despite these changes, Hearts of Oak concluded the season in 14th place with 45 points, narrowly avoiding relegation with a dramatic 3-2 comeback against Bechem United on the final day.

Speaking on the club’s situation, Frank Nelson expressed optimism that measures need to be put in place to ensure something like that does not happen again.

“The management must review their technical reports and everything,” he told Citi Sports.

“We will not allow Accra Hearts of Oak to go leftwards. We will do everything to make sure Hearts of Oak is sustained.”
