We don’t want to battle relegation again this season – Hearts of Oak PRO Opare Addo

Published on: 11 September 2024

Hearts of Oak Public Relations Officer Kwame Opare Addo has said the club is looking to avoid a repeat of what happened to them last season in the Ghana Premier League.

The Phobians needed a dramatic 3-2 win away at Bechem United on the final day of the season to survive relegation and have not had a great start to the new season.

Newly promoted Basake Holy Stars shocked them 1-0 on Sunday, September 9, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium in their opening game of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League.

This caused an uproar among fans, resulting in the booing of players and coaches after the game.

"We don’t want what happened to us last season to happen again. We would have liked a perfect takeoff, but it didn’t happen. That’s not what we all expected,” Opare Addo told Asempa FM, as monitored by footballghana.com.

“But that will teach us some lessons to take forward in the competition. Going forward, we have to be much more competitive, purposeful, and stronger than what we did in the first game.”

Hearts of Oak’s next game is away to Heart of Lions on Sunday.
