Veteran coach JE Sarpong concerned about mass sacking of players at Asante Kotoko

Experienced Ghanaian coach J.E Sarpong has expressed his worry about the mass sacking of players at Asante Kotoko.

The Porcupine Warriors has so far parted company with over 20 players following a disappointing 2023/24 season, where Kotoko finished sixth at the end of the Ghana Premier League campaign.

Captain Danlad Ibrahim, Richmond Lamptey, Enoch Morrison and Steven Mukwala are among the top players to have departed the club.

And according to coach Sarpong, the decision to release over 20 players could have a serious implication on the team which can lead the club to demotion.

“It will affect the team. They’ve been sacking players every season. Where is the stability? Ogum sacked eleven players when he came and brought another eleven but they struggled. We have to keep some old players. We know how players are. We don’t go out and describe them as politicians when they are wrong. It is how you manage the team," he told Mothers FM.

“For example, Amankona was bought from Chelsea to Kotoko because of his scoring prowess but he returned to Berekum to win the golden boot. It means there is something basically wrong with. They will go to relegation if they don’t take care,” he added.
