The best player will win – Kotoko’s Steven Mukwala opens up on GPL goal king battle

Asante Kotoko striker Steven Desse Mukwala has opened up on the Ghana Premier League goal king race with three matches to end the campaign.

Mukwala has been in stellar form for the Porcupine Warriors, despite the club's inconsistent performance in the Ghana Premier League.

The forward has been Kotoko's leading scorer, netting 14 goals and providing 2 assists in 25 games so far this season. He is one goal adrift of Berekum Chelsea’s Stephen Amankona, who leads the race with 15 goals.

Putting on a stellar performance, Mukwala scored two brilliant goals as the Porcupine Warriors cruised to a 2-0 win at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking after the game, Mukwala expressed that the best player at the end of the campaign will clinch the goal king prize.

“It’s a tough race. Amankona is also in good shape but I believe at the end of the season, the best player will win the goal king prize” he said.

Mukwala’s outstanding performances have earned him a spot in the Cranes of Uganda national squad for the crucial World Cup qualifiers next month.

The win propels Kotoko into the top half of the table, now in 9th place and further away from the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak find themselves in a precarious position, sitting 14th on the table, just two points above the drop zone.
