Black Stars defender Tariq Lamptey has expressed the team's unwavering determination following their vital triumphs over Mali and the Central African Republic (CAR) in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Lamptey, who delivered a solid performance in both matches, emphasized the team's self-belief and commitment to following the coach's instructions.
Speaking to 3Sports, Lamptey said, "We definitely believe in ourselves and our talent. Our focus is on the coach's instructions, taking each game as it comes, and working as hard as possible. The hard work we put in during the week leading up to the last two games paid off, and we got the results we deserved. Our aim is to maintain this momentum and secure qualification."
Ghana's winning streak comes after a mixed start in Group I of the World Cup qualifiers, where they initially secured a 1-0 victory over Madagascar in Kumasi, only to suffer a 1-0 defeat to Comoros in Moroni.
The team's fortunes turned on June 6th, when they clinched a 2-1 victory over Mali, thanks to goals from Ernest Nuamah and Jordan Ayew. This was followed by a thrilling 4-3 win against the Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on June 10, 2024. Jordan Ayew scored a hat trick, and winger Fatawu Issahaku contributed the other goal for Ghana.
Currently, Ghana sits second in Group I, level with Comoros, both teams having earned nine points after four games. The Black Stars are poised to maintain their momentum and secure a spot in the 2026 World Cup.
