The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has revealed that Black Stars head coach Otto Addo and his two assistant coaches, Fatau Dauda and John Paintsil, are safe after their accident on Sunday morning.

The trio was en route to Accra after attending a match between FC Samartex and Nsoatreman FC, held at the new TNA Sports Stadium on Saturday, August 31, 2024.

Social media images revealed the extent of the damage to their vehicle. Goalkeepers' trainer Fatau Dauda was seen walking past the wrecked car in the photos.

The accident occurred as Addo, Paintsil, and Dauda were heading back to Accra to prepare for Ghana's upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The GFA has now released a statement saying, “The Ghana Football Association (GFA) wishes to inform the general public that members of the Black Stars technical team were involved in a road accident earlier today while returning from Tarkwa. The team had been on an official assignment, observing the Champion of Champions clash between FC Samartex 1996 and Nsoatreman FC.

“The vehicle carrying Head Coach Otto Addo, Assistant Coach John Paintsil, and Goalkeepers Trainer Fatawu Dauda, a Land Cruiser with registration number GR 6521-21, avoided a head-on collision with a pickup truck which veered off into its lane with some damage to the vehicle.

“We are happy to report that all three members of the technical team are in stable condition and will undergo further medical assessments, as a precautionary measure, upon their return to Accra.”

The Black Stars are set to begin their campaign against Angola on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
