I’m ready to start for England when called up - Kobbie Mainoo

Kobbie Mainoo has expressed his readiness to start for England when called upon by manager Gareth Southgate.

The 19-year-old made his competitive England debut in a 1-0 win against Serbia after being introduced in the 86th minute for Jude Bellingham who scored the winning goal for the Three Lions on Sunday.

Speaking ahead of their game against Denmark on Thursday, Kobbie Mainoo said he was ready to start but admits there are equally good players in the squad vying for starting spots.

"I'm ready to play, whether that's off the bench or starting. Obviously, there's other great midfielders in the squad in the Premier League or abroad like Jude [Bellingham].

“I'm trying to train hard and be ready when I'm called upon.”

He made his senior debut for England in the March international break against Brazil and then got his first start against Belgium, impressing in both encounters.

Mainoo also disclosed that he considered playing for Ghana at international level but is has always been his dream to play for England.
