The Black Princesses, Ghana's national women's under-20 football team, have commenced training and preparations for the upcoming Women's U-20 World Cup, slated to take place in Colombia.
This was confirmed by the team's coach, Yussif Basigi, in an interview.
Basigi, who is determined to break the team's longstanding jinx of not progressing beyond the group stage at the tournament, emphasized the importance of hard work and dedication in achieving this goal. The Black Princesses have consistently participated in the biennial tournament, with their seventh consecutive appearance set for this year.
"We just started training yesterday and we know what it takes to get to the competition because we have been struggling a lot especially with the Princesses when it comes to the World Cup," he told Happy FM as monitored by Footballghana.com
"We have never advanced from the group stage so it is a big task for us to work very hard this time around so you can only talk about the semis when you are able to advance. So this is what we are targeting this time around to advance to the bigger stage," he added.
Ghana is set to kick off their campaign against Austria in their opening Group E match. Subsequent group games will see them face off against New Zealand and Japan. The U-20 FIFA Women’s World Cup is scheduled to commence on August 31 and conclude on September 22, 2024.
