2026 World Cup qualifiers: Medeama striker Jonathan Sowah returns to Ghana squad ahead of Madagascar and Comoros clash

Published on: 09 November 2023

In a thrilling return to the international stage, Medeama's star striker, Jonathan Sowah, has earned a well-deserved call-up to the Ghana squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros.

Coach Chris Hughton's decision highlights Sowah's remarkable performance in the recent friendly against Liberia in September, where the 24-year-old made an impactful ten-minute substitution, setting up Jordan Ayew for Ghana's decisive third goal.

Sowah's brief but impressive display earned him resounding applause from the fans, solidifying his position as one of the key players to watch in this crucial campaign.

Sowah's teammate at Medeama defender Fatawu Hamid is also in the squad for the clash against Comoros and Madagascar.

He has made six appearances and scored three goals in the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League. The former Danbort striker has also made four appearances and scored twice in the CAF Champions League this season.

Ghana will host Madagascar on Friday, November 17, 2023 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium before facing Comoros in Moroni on Tuesday, November 21, 2023.
