Black Stars defender, Jerome Opoku has been ruled out of the game against Niger due to an injury, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced.

Opoku has returned to Turkey for further medical assessments as he begins his recovery.

The lanky central defender who did not feature in the recent game against Angola in Kumasi becomes the second player to withdraw from the squad, following Joseph Paintsil, who was unable to travel due to passport issues.

In a statement, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) explained: "The player reported to the medical team with deep-seated pain in his left gluteal muscles, and further examination confirmed the injury was aggravated by the poor condition of the pitch in Kumasi."

Meanwhile, the Black Stars wrapped up their training sessions on Sunday ahead of the game later today.

The team will be looking to bounce back from their defeat to Angola as they face Niger at the Stade Municipal de Berkane.

Kick-off for the game is scheduled to kick off at 16:00GMT.
