2023 Africa Cup of Nations: Augustine Ahinful hopeful Mohammed Kudus avoids injury ahead of tournament

Published on: 12 December 2023

In anticipation of the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, former Ghanaian striker Augustine Ahinful has voiced his optimism about the fitness of midfielder Mohammed Kudus.

With just 32 days remaining until the tournament kicks off, Ahinful is hopeful that Kudus, who has been in stellar form for the Hammers, can avoid injuries that might hamper his participation in the continental championship.

The 23-year-old midfielder has been an instrumental force for his club, contributing six goals across various competitions.

As Ghana finds itself placed in Group B of the 2023 AFCON, alongside Egypt, Mozambique, and Cape Verde, Ahinful sees Kudus as a key player who could significantly impact Ghana's campaign in the tournament set to commence in January 2024.

"I think since the time he was integrated into the team, we have seen his performance keeps going up. We should just hope that he doesn't get himself injured," he told Joy Sports.

"He playing well will also affect our national team positively, so we should continue to guide him, advise him, and hope for the best for him."
