The NFF revealed plans to bring in an international expert after the national team's disappointing performance in the recent 2026 World Cup qualifier matches.

According to reports within the Nigerian football community, Finidi George perceived the NFF's plan to hire a foreign technical advisor as an attempt to oust him from his position. Having coached the team for only two matches without securing a victory, his tenure as the national team coach was brief. The former Nigerian international player's record includes a home draw against South Africa and an away loss to Benin Republic.

In a recent crisis management meeting, the NFF confirmed its decision to hire an expatriate Technical Advisor for the Super Eagles in the upcoming weeks. This move is intended to bolster the team's performance in the AFCON qualifiers and the remaining FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.
